commercialisation of the bioeconomy

World Bio Markets is the leading international business event for the global bioeconomy community.

We connect over 450 industry leaders with a 2 day programme of pre-arranged 1-2-1 commercial meetings, knowledge exchange, and networking in order to accelerate the transition to a fossil-free economy.

The event connects and generates deal flow between bio developers and producers, global brands and buyers, investors and financiers, community enablers and suppliers.

Let us help you commercialise, scale your business and tap into growing markets as the world goes through the biggest transformation and re-allocation of capital and jobs in its history.

What happened at World Bio Markets 2023?

In 2023 the event returned to its spiritual home in The Netherlands and facilitated over 700 pre-arranged 1-2-1 commercial deal flow meetings and inspired hundreds of additional informal connections.

The energy in the room was incredible as 350 bio-pioneers, from 36 countries, came together to drive the growth of the sector through unity and collaboration.

Where technical meets business

For 17 years World Bio Markets has been uniting and connecting the bioeconomy value chain from lab to market and driving change through commercially viable innovation.

Here is a small sample of some of the companies who participated in 2023. You can find the full list of attendees here.

World Bio Markets efficiently connects the bioeconomy value chain. From feedstocks to biotech to consumer brands and retail and everything in between. I believe that this event will grow year on year and cement its position as the ‘must attend’ event for the bioeconomy.

1-2-1 Meetings

We believe that highly targeted and pre-arranged 1-2-1 commercial meetings are key to accelerating the growth of the sector and the transition to a bio-based economy.

Our pre-arranged meetings format removes the element of luck from traditional networking and provides the most cost and time efficient way of connecting with potential new customers and partners.

In the run up to the event all attendees can view each other’s profile and pre-arrange 30 minute meetings via our online planner.

You will also be presented with a list of people who meet the criteria you provided, and who you would benefit from meeting.

Meetings with sponsors are held in their branded and private meeting space and delegate to delegate meetings are held in a dedicated area.

I have had two days of back to back meetings in order to discover companies and technologies that can help us achieve our 2030 sustainability goals. I was particularly interested in discovering new feedstocks to help us reach our 100% renewable or recycled materials targets. The event has been very helpful.

Catarina Vannfält, Material Innovation Developer, IKEA

The conference blends technical innovations with market driven dialogue and real world commercial reality.

Improve your competitive advantage by staying ahead of the knowledge curve – keep up to date with the latest trends, thinking and market developments and take actionable insights back to the office to help you and your team make better decisions.

Hear from the bio pioneers who are bringing ground breaking sustainable solutions to the market, investors funding the acceleration, consumer facing brands who are integrating bio within their wider sustainability strategy and the community enablers who can supercharge scalability and commercialisation.

The programme addresses every part of the bioeconomy ecosystem from farmer to consumer and everything in between.

Top line issues being discussed include:

  • The role of bio in the race to carbon negativity
  • Re thinking how we make things with bio based materials, ingredients and chemicals
  • Investment strategies and how to secure funding
  • Macroeconomic and geopolitical influences impacting the growth of the bioeconomy
  • Scaling up, commercialisation and collaboration
  • Biomass and waste stream feedstocks and their impact on the wider value chain
  • Inside the minds of the retailers, clothing and footwear, cosmetics, food and drink and household brands
  • Trends from around the world and how to access international markets
  • Using certification to communicate with consistency, clarity and confidence

WBM is a high-quality event and a great opportunity for us to meet existing and new partners from across the bio-material and bio-tech value chain. We intend to return in future years.
