We’ve had the estimated carbon foot print of World Bio Markets 2019 calculated, and we’re delighted to say that it is very low. Energy use, freight and deliveries, food and drink, signage, giveaways, lanyards, brochures, waste etc… By making conscious decisions on our venue and suppliers, the total carbon emissions equal just under 30 tCO2e, which is the same as one car driving 73,000 miles, or powering 3.5 homes for a year.
Travel and accommodation are therefore the largest contributor of carbon emissions to the event, so below we have made a few suggestions on how you can reduce your impact when attending the event, and we’ve also set up a Just Giving page so you can donate to offset the impact and we will match your donation. More details are at the bottom of the page.
This venue uses 100% green energy from wind!
Directions & Parking
The PTA is a 15 minute direct train from Schiphol Airport and/or a 10 minute walk from Centraal station. Detailed information on this and parking can be found by clicking here and scrolling down to the bottom of the page.
Due to the high number of events taking place in Amsterdam at the same time as World Bio Markets, we highly recommended that you book your accommodation as soon as possible, as affordable accommodation always sells out well in advance. We have partnered with Preferred Hotel Reservations who have negotiated discounted rates and flexible cancellation terms with various hotels all within relatively close distance of the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam.
What’s more, we are proud to work with hotels that have sustainability in mind, and hope you may consider this when making your accommodation choice. Our particular recommendation would be Hotel Jakarta which is an energy neutral building. Please see below for options and click here to book.
We advise looking at various travel options before booking as rail has a significantly lower carbon footprint than travelling by air. For some of you travelling by train would be simply impossible, and for others it may increase the journey time too severely, but it is worth bearing in mind the time it takes to get to an airport, wait around for departure, potential delays etc, compared to the relative ease of jumping on a train at a central train station, which can take you all the way to Amsterdam Centraal. Travelling by Eurostar has an even more significantly low impact, and with the Eurostar now extending from London to Amsterdam, the Bio Market Insight team are looking forward to catching this mode of transport.
A small donation of £5 (or the equivalent in the currency of your choice) from every delegate, put towards a dedicated REDD project, would offset the estimated total carbon footprint of the event and all related activities, including delegate travel and accommodation. So we have set up a Just Giving page to do just that!
We would hugely appreciate any donation you can make and will match all donations up to the total of £1,250. That means, with your help, there is the potential for £2,500 to be donated to a REDD project which would neutralise the affects of our event. We’ll let you know exactly what project we donate to and what the outcome is!
