Matti is a Biotech Engineer with an MBA from Turku University of Applied Sciences. Matti has 15 years of experience in industrial biotechnology, starting with Genencor/DuPont where he was leading a global engineering team responsible for the development of Industrial Bioscience Division’s process technologies and competencies.
During his career, he has had various international leadership roles and organizational development responsibilities. At MetGen he is responsible for manufacturing, the development of technologies and new business as well as collaboration projects, marketing, and financing.
In these roles, Matti has always been driven to innovation, radical rather than incremental. Matti strongly believes in the power of open innovation to drive change in the bio-based and chemical industries. As a recent demonstration of the relevance of Matti’s work, MetGen received the 2019 Best Enzymatic Technologies in Europe Award from Frost & Sullivan for it’s Unique, Customized Enzyme Technologies, METNIN™ and ENZINE®.
Matti has successfully lead MetGen to be a part of 11 European Horizon2020 projects. This collaborative action has provided the company with 12,7 M€ of public funding to drive the new technologies quickly through the technology readiness levels to industrial and commercial maturity. Together with its 70+ project partners, MetGen has participated in 110M€ development efforts of more than 25 new biobased value-chains and 50 new renewable products.
In March last year, Matti’s work for the renewal of industries was recognized with CTO of the Year 2018 Award by Technology Industries Finland and Business Finland.
