Prisma Renewable Composites is a biomaterials company creating technologies to produce high value composite materials, including carbon fibers and polymers, all of which contain lignin, a highly renewable organic polymer. Prisma spun-out of TennEra, LLC, a company borne from a $70M grant by the State of Tennessee to further the State’s foothold in renewable resources, biofuels, and biomaterials. Prisma maintains close working relationships and license agreements with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of Tennessee, and the Joint Institute for Advanced Materials. In June 2018, a majority stake in Prisma was acquired by Domtar Corporation (NYSE: UFS), further securing a robust lignin supply chain which Domtar and Prisma have tailored specifically towards Prisma’s technology to service customers in the Automotive Industry and beyond. Prisma’s team and IP portfolio ensures that it serves as an effective bridge between the global lignin supply chain and consumers of everyday plastics and carbon fibers.
